HER

HER is a sculptural floor lamp developed by Canadian industrial design student Yuanlin Hu. The form is inspired by the silhouette and emotional feeling of a mother’s embrace, translating a personal relationship into an object intended to create a sense of warmth and comfort. Its elongated, organic body creates a distinctive visual profile while producing soft, diffused illumination. The project also explores how additive manufacturing can support more sustainable product development. HER uses large-nozzle FDM 3D printing and recycled PETG, with a modular construction intended to facilitate repair, upgrades, and material recycling. The project won a 2025 Red Dot Design Award in the Design Concept / Next Gen category, making it particularly strong as an emerging-designer story.
