The Becoming
The Becoming explores the connection between the human form and the natural world through the merging of body and flower. Using the orchid as both a visual and symbolic reference, the garment reflects a balance between fragility and resilience of growing youths. Inspired by the process of blooming, the design conveys the transformative nature of both human and nature. The mixed imagery of flowers and the body blurs boundaries and emphasises the parallels between the two. Constructed with cotton and wool, the garment contrasts structure and softness. The lacing details on the headpiece and corset suggest restraint and hesitation, while the voluminous balloon skirt implies movement and release. These opposing elements reflect the inherent duality of growth, where restriction and expansion coexist within the process of becoming.
