Asymptotic Wine & Print magazine uses fragrance to evoke emotions and create an immersive experience, with scents carefully selected to enhance the wine tasting and art viewing process. The magazine's scent profiles are designed to complement each issue's unique theme and artwork. AWP has also developed a system of subtle scent markers, allowing readers to easily identify specific wines or artworks throughout the magazine.
Imagine creating an identity for something you can't see, but can certainly smell. For LA-based scented candle company Elsewhere Fragrances, this was the challenge that As We Proceed (AWP) studio took on with enthusiasm. By leveraging storytelling and a dash of creativity, AWP crafted a nostalgic visual identity for Elsewhere Fragrances, transporting customers to far-flung destinations inspired by the vastness of space.
Our journey began when Ethan Gaskill, founder of independent fragrance company Elsewhere Fragrances, reached out to AWP with an exciting opportunity. As a studio steered by storytelling, we were immediately hooked. By diving into the world of fragrances and their captivating aromas, we aimed to create visuals that would transport customers on an odyssey through space and time.
Through our design process, we drew inspiration from the idea of travel destinations "from this world and beyond." We conjured up images of celestial landscapes, nebulae, and distant planets, infusing them with a sense of wonder and exploration. By marrying these visuals with a nostalgic aesthetic, we created an identity that not only reflected the essence of Elsewhere Fragrances but also beckoned customers to embark on their own intergalactic journey.
Designing a visual identity for something you can't see but can certainly smell presents its unique set of challenges. The key lies in creating a connection between the customer's perception and the fragrance itself, using evocative imagery that transcends visual boundaries. In this case, AWP employed a range of techniques to achieve this synergy, from capturing the essence of various scents to distilling them into captivating narratives.
By crafting a cohesive brand identity for Elsewhere Fragrances, AWP demonstrated the power of storytelling in shaping our perceptions and creating lasting connections with products we can't see. Whether you're embarking on an intergalactic journey or simply seeking to elevate your daily routine, this pioneering approach invites us to rethink the relationship between scent and visual identity.
The story behind AWP's design process reveals a compelling narrative about the intersection of creativity, imagination, and collaboration. By partnering with Ethan Gaskill and his vision for Elsewhere Fragrances, we embarked on an exciting journey that redefined the boundaries of visual storytelling.
